Signore Conte next , should be interesting .
Conte's been Sammed now.
Everton 0- Chelsea 0 No idea how the match panned out but probably a typically gritty and dour Allardyce performance of getting an inferior team to deny a team of expensive All Stars. (Edit possession stats of 32:68! :grinning:) Still a point is a point isn't it and it's a point closer to the 40 that many were thinking they wouldn't get just 3 weeks ago.

14 points from 6 to date. Beaten every club below them and drawn with those above. Everton fans who know about football gotta be happy with that.

I notice Little Sam on Talk sport saying that out of all the manager's that he's worked with and played for from Paisley onwards that in his opinion Allardyce is right up there if not the best Manager of the lot. Cue a chorus of Mandy Rice Davies impressions.... "well he would say that wouldn't he?":p

Panned out pretty much as you describe. It was a testament to Chelsea's quality and form (think they'd won 8 out of their previous 10) that Sam's blueprint didn't end in a 1-0 Everton win. Chelsea were just a bit too dominant to allow that. Everton defended superbly though.

"Beaten every club below them and drawn with those above". Isn't that Sam summed up in a sentence? Its incredible that us, West Ham and Newcastle all sacked a manager of that nature.

I thought revitalised Everton might have sneaked this one . All credit to Chelsea , they’re a decent team. An away draw at Goodison will be seen as point gained not two lost, as Big Sam’s influence on his team grows .

Maybe you should speak to some of the players that he has managed Abbey.

Nothing proven wrong? Rovers has gone to hell in handbasket as soon as Allardyce was sacked whilst he's spent that time managing a plethora of top flight clubs and getting the England job. The alternative managers the Sam haters suggested at the time have since all been shown to be rubbish. And as much as try to forget it, there were even a good number fans happy to have Kean as an alternative to Allardyce at the time.

Its comical how much the Allardyce haters have been proven wrong (black comedy of course) and I'm almost embarrassed on the behalf of those still totally unable to admit it.

Fair enough, we've been proven wrong over the last 3 games. If only the anti-zzzamettes had been prepared to let their hatred drop after being proven wrong for the last 7 years.

Big Sam has lifted Everton clear of the relegation places . Let’s judge him at the end of the season , I’m not a betting man, but if I was, I’d wager Everton will end up closer to the top than the bottom

I'd tend to agree. They aren't out of the woods quite yet. Everton look as poor a set of players as the ones here that Ince left behind. It's a sad fact of modern football management that the average tenure of a Manager in any given job is about equal to HALF the length of an average players contract. Not many get to work with their own signings do they?

ive asked the ones who have won things with him.
Abbey you make plenty of posts revealing your opinion on Allardyce's credentials as a manager but I well remember back in 2010 when I put you on the spot and asked you who you thought was a better manager and who would actually come to BRFC to replace Allardyce you said that you wanted Ian Holloway.o_O:rolleyes:

So allardyces sacking ( he was looking for an exit at the time ) is why we've gone to pot ? Nowt to do with venkyscum or Anderson then .

Well wasn't sacking him their work?
Anyway nice to see you siding with the owners and Anderson so completely and quite telling that you along with the owners chose to boycott Ewood Park when my predictions re: the consequences of your actions in wanting Allardyce out of the door became so clear . Seems Abbey that you, Mrs Desai and that spiv Anderson have much in common.:p

It was less about sacking Sam and more about backing Kean for two years as we plunged inexorably into relegation.
Really? I don't really disagree but getting rid of Allardyce was the turning point. Pretty much cause and effect. I must say 'I wanted Allardyce gone at any cost a but I thought we'd get a proper manager' has become the fall back position of many of the shamefaced boo boys as they seek to emulate Pontious Pilate in washing their hands of any responsibility.

what would you rather watch a game like Liverpool and city, arsenal v Chelsea or a game between zzzam and john beck?

You've named 4 teams from the top 6 there, Abs... Probably a combined spend of £600m since this time last year.

Best to remember that in Allardyce' last summer transfer window at the club he spent precisely..... £0. The season before that (09/10) he spent £12m, whilst bringing in £33m in transfer fees.

Just as an interesting comparison - 09/10 season we finished 10th in the league;

1st - Chelsea - £27m
2nd - United - £25m
3rd - Arsenal - 10.8m
4th - Spurs - £37m
5th - Man City - £132m
6th - Villa - £42m
7th - Liverpool - £40m
8th - Everton - £21m
9th - Birmingham - £18.5m
10th - Blackburn - £12m.
11th - Stoke - £25m.
12th - Fulham - £6.39m (Hodgson)
13th - Sunderland - £41m
14th - Bolton - £10.8m
15th - Wolves - £17.5m
16th - Wigan - £17m
17th - West Ham - £20m
18th - Burnley - £12m
19th - Hull - £15m
20th - Portsmouth - £10m

Based on that, we were the 4th lowest spenders and finished the highest in the league out of those 4. Obviously there are a few factors to be taken - Rovers actually MADE a net profit of £21m that summer, for example - I'm not going to start working this out for all clubs before anyone asks!

Martin O'Neill was a name on the lips of Rovers fans when Allardyce was sacked. From August 06 to August 10 he spent £169m of Randy Lerner's money.

Martin Jol was also a hot favourite - Spent close to £180m between in 3 seasons.

If anyone can find a copy of the league table when Sam was sacked I will do the same based on the fact we spent £0 that summer - My hunch is that would put us rock bottom of the spending list.

I think it's fair to say the top 7 or 8 were more advanced than the rest of the league, and fair play to Bimringham, they had that amazing season under McCleish when they had just come up - we finished level on points with them.

Anyway, just a little something to consider.

It was a damned good game on Saturday and I enjoyed it but the issue is that it was played in the 3rd Division in front of a half empty ground with the home team 120m in debt and with their entire future existence held in the hands of absent owners who on a whim could pull the plug!
We will never be able to match the personnel of those teams that you listed for obvious reasons. Their owners would blow Jack's total wealth out of the water without their bank account hardly even registering it.
So the question seems to be 'Would I rather be in boring, dogged old Burnley's position, run sensibly and with not a cat in hell's chance of them going out of business, and no chance of them being relegated either unless they think they are something which they are not and sack off their manager ..... then YES I bloody well would. Also seems pretty nailed on that the missing 12000 would too! How about you?
