Should be a fairly even match whoever wins next week.

I must say reading NUFC sites most appear to be rather gloomily writing their chances off of going through to the 4th round. I'm not quite as confident as they are tbh.

I suppose in the greater scheme of things it's not that important but it would be a great boost for the lads to dispose of Newcastle.

Always nice to turn a big club over isn't it? Their fans are usually so gobby that they make it so.

I see it's mission accomplished for Benitez and Ashley. They wanted out and we couldn't oblige. Watford could.

88 mins and it's 2-3 so no they can't. Valiant effort all the same.

Large group of friends around last night for food and drink. Two Man Utd fans took themselves off to the lounge to watch the match. Re-surfaced 90 mins later looking glum with the opinion that Solskaer isn't the man for the job full time. I did point out that it took SAF 4 years to win anything amidst calls fro him to be sacked from the press and public...... "
From Wiki...... "an early season run of six defeats and two draws in eight games, a banner declaring, "Three years of excuses and it's still crap ... ta-ra Fergie." was displayed at Old Trafford, and many journalists and supporters called for Ferguson to be sacked.[66][67] Ferguson later described December 1989 as "the darkest period [he had] ever suffered in the game", as United ended the decade just outside the relegation zone.[68][69]

Following a run of seven games without a win, Manchester United were drawn away to Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup. Forest were performing well that season and were in the process of winning the League Cup for the second season running,[70] and it was expected that United would lose the match and Ferguson would consequently be sacked, but United won the game 1–0 due to a Mark Robins goal and eventually reached the final. This cup win is often cited as the match that saved Ferguson's Old Trafford career.

And the rest as they say is history.

(Not sure whether I should start another thread about possibles INS and OUTS for the summer but it'll do here for now.)

Whilst I'm sure that the rest of football gives a collective sigh of relief everyone connected with Millwall must be gutted at the manner of their exit to Brighton in the FA Cup. 2-0 up on 88 mins they contrived to let Brighton make it 2-2 by the time the final whistle went! And I thought it was only us capable of such amateurish play!
Effectively Millwall keeper Dave Martin totally spewed what should have been a routine catch by making the ball appear to be a bar of wet soap in the 4th minute of stoppage time! Needless to say they went on to lose on penalties. Highlights here.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47512116

Shit happens of course and especially in football but whatever has happened to Jordan Archer? He was the Millwall and Scotland goalkeeper who mightily impressed me when Millwall came to Ewood in August. I wrote at the time........
"The only commendable efforts were a Lenihan header against the bar and a Dack free kick low and round the wall which brought the save of the match from the excellent Jordan Archer who then went on to deny the rovers in the second half on a number of occasions after the Rovers woke from their first half lethargy. How we could do with a goalkeeper like him between the sticks!"
Highlights of his ability at Ewood here (including a couple of instances of Rothwell's ability to carry the ball forward at speed.)

Former Tottenham youth team player Jordan Archer was excellent that night but for some reason he lost his place and struggled to get it back. He wasn't even on the bench yesterday! I've checked a few articles and it appears that he is still being overlooked and the likely reason being that way back in November he accused the Millwall manager Harris of overlooking him because he is racist! Now looking at that video clip there doesn't appear to be too many black players in the squad at Millwall (mighty odd for a London team) but it's hardly the best way to make friends and influence people is it?
Still beggars can't be choosers and whilst I am of the impression he's a bit of a whip top (btw isn't a touch of madness' supposed to be pre-requisite of all keepers?) shouldn't we be keeping tabs on this lad as a possible replacement for Leutwiler and a proper rival to David Raya for the ist team keepers gloves? I wonder what the Captains opinions of playing in front of both keepers are?

Fair to say the old competition has lost its lustre of late, but this Saturday's final could be a significant milestone in the history of English domestic football. If Citeh overcome the Hornets, according to my reckoning, they'll become the first club ever to win a domestic treble. Considering the great Revie, Paisley, Clough, Wenger and Fergie sides never quite made it, it will be something if they achieve it.

Footnote: it would be poetic justice for Klopp, if Spurs pip Liverpool in the "Champions(sic) League" final the following weekend, and they win nothing, given his serial resting of players for the FA Cup.

Well that was an exhibition of ruthlessness as Man City demolished poor old Watford. A plucky performance by Watford (albeit being more than a little shot shy) was completely blown away by the clinical finishing of the Manchester Billionaires and especially so once Kevin De Bruyne joined in the fun when he replaced Mahrez in the second half. Apparently Watford have spent 45 m in total on their entire squad whilst City had spent 245m just on yesterday's subs! It ain't right in the name of sport but what can anyone do?
FFP simply can't cope with such unlimited wealth can it? A parallel in Blackburn currently where the wealthy Issa's (owners of euro garages) ride rough shod over every planning rule that is put before them safe in the knowledge that BwD council simply darn't / can't afford to take them to court in order to enforce their misdeeds. Money doesn't talk these days.... it screams!

One good thing about yesterday's massacre though is that for all their firepower Man City only managed to equal the century plus record of 6 goals scored in a FA Cup Final held by the Rovers and (surprisingly) Bury FC and not beat it! Small consolation and the Ref couldn't blow the final whistle quick enough for me once they'd got six on the scoreboard!
