I accept all of that but I think it is the sheer number of test matches played these days that Gordon and I were referring to.
I watched Trueman and Statham and they were brilliant but if you never saw them you could not appreciate them.

Anderson has to be England's all time great . The number of wickets he's taken and the skill to move the ball both ways is a sight to behold .

I never meant to decry them. They are great bowlers but the point I was making was that new ones always seem to emerge when the current ones retire.

All great bowlers but that table would take on a different look if it was based on average runs per wicket. Especially if as you say the fielding is better nowadays.

Yep , Freddie Trueman and Brian Statham would win that hands down , but it's satisfying that two Red Rose pace men ( Jimmy & Brian ) are so far up in the table of great English bowlers .

Stokes didn't do too bad either but you are right we would be a good side with decent no.2 and 3 batsmen.

Was looking forward to watching the Surrey v Bears T20 quarter - final on telly this evening , but just seen Flintoff and Key doing the pre match review . Can't bear to listen to either of them , like a couple of silly , annoying teenagers .

Had a fantastic day at Headingly. Good cricket, good food and good company. 12 Rovers season ticket holders sitting together and we all missed the 4 - 1 victory.

They batted superbly. In the first hour the ball was moving all over the place and they withstood that and then cut loose when the sun shone and the pitch became much easier. Two superb centuries.

Good day at Headingly today . England 50s for Root, Malan , Stokes , Woakes & a fantastic 84 by Moeen Ali . England in total control . On our way out exchanged a hello with a fellow Rovers fan , wearing the colours .

Congratulations to West Indies . Terrific batting display . I for one didn't see that coming ! Life a little unbearable in my house just at the moment , as I try to calm down the resident Windies fan .

No criticism of Joe Root for his bold declaration . Like the press , TV pundits & cricket fans generally , perhaps England were guilty of complacency .

Next stop Lords and normal service resumes , Jimmy Anderson gets his 500th test wicket & England blow the Windies away to win the series 2-1

He's young and green but he'll learn. When you are 1 up in 3 match series the golden rule must be not to lose. I've not heard his comments but I doubt Boycott would have declared if he was in that situation.
