Fair point Gordon . You're probably right , if Geoffrey had been captain it's doubtful he'd have declared , if he'd have been captain and still batting himself , he definitely wouldn't have declared . :)

Or Close..... Or Illingworth or every other bloody yorkshire cricketer other than Joe Root!o_O

That yorkshire dressing room back in the day must not have been for people of a nervous disposition .... and I haven't mentioned Fiery Freddie Truman yet.

Characters one and all ! Imagine trying to make a name for yourself in that dressing room as an up and coming youngster . Scary stuff :worried:

Here we go again . Tough batting conditions , but the bowling is hardly world class

19 - 3

Where do the selectors turn for a decent top 5 to take down under ?

I'd imagine tickets for the last day might be going cheap pretty soon.

Cheers Gordon . Enjoyed watching that . My favourite has to be Jardine , ( my all time favourite England captain ) and Woodfull . The Aussies are the masters of sledging .

Well done England & well done Jimmy. In my opinion the greatest ever England bowler . We should be mighty proud of this Lancastrian .

I must say in that piccy above that Merv Hughes was taking one massive risk pulling that face and having a go at a man who has just been dismissed and carrying a cricket bat in his hands.

I might be wrong, but I think that's Greame Hick , so Merv was on reasonably safe ground there . Not sure if he'd have taken that sort of risk with Beefy !

Ashes 2017-18: England hopeful Haseeb Hameed breaks finger

The cricketing grammar fraternity not impressed with the BBC’s headline !

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41349848

Grammar apart , really bad luck for a fine young Lancashire cricketer .

I just have a nagging doubt about his technique after two broken fingers in the last 12 months. It looks incredibly classic and correct but because of it , is there a tendency for him to get hit on the gloves, more often than he should ? Even more so on the quick , bouncy pitches in Australia. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise , that he can't now be considered for selection.

As you know I'm no cricket buff but cant he simply find some better gloves?
