Thoroughly enjoyed this ODI series . England are a very good ODI team with some superb and highly skilled specialists . Woakes and Bairstow have performed really well .

I’m a big test match fan but without the financial muscle of ODIs and T20 , I doubt the longer form of the game can survive . I’ll pay to watch all formats this summer and will enjoy them all

A point made on the news that England supporters flying there with tickets for Saturday might have nowhere to go!

Say it quietly but maybe our initial impressions last autumn that Australia were a weak team compared to the Aussies of old need to be re-evaluated. However another factor which I might suggest is that the players are 'over cricketed'. They've been away an awful long time and I'd be surprised if they weren't jaded.

I've said if before and I'll say it again that although I've never been in his company and from his general demeanour I don't see Joe Root as anything beyond a top quality batsmen. He certainly doesn't strike me as a Test match captain.
Anyway how come we struggle against swing bowling? Isn't that the conditions that we are most used to?

I got up ( slightly later than usual - a bit of a rush into work) and switched the TV on , after all the only reason I have Sky Sports is for the cricket. . NZ were 169 for 3 , I thought that's slow going , went into the kitchen, came back to the news that England had been bowled out for 58 after being 27-9 . That would've been a disaster in Lancashire League 3rd team cricket !

Of the relatively successful England teams over the last 20 years the Hussain/Fletcher, Vaughan/Fletcher and the best of them all Strauss/Flower combinations stand out . If any fingers need pointing then I'd point them at Bayliss , not Root . He's a laid back sort of guy , shuns the media and has built a decent ODI team but the test results and performances since he's been coach have been average to dreadful .

In Australia we were rank bad at facing fast bowling and now in NZ we've capitulated against bowling that swings . Our bowling looks military medium and with the exception of Anderson pretty ordinary . I'm beginning to think that England test cricket is entering a period of can't bat , can't bowl and can't field . Add to that the team is desperately short of personality and characters .

England Lions were hammered in the West Indies this winter , so not looking good for English cricket at the moment.

Bad week for English sport all round , rugby and cricket in the doldrums and English football so dire , two Dingles are in the world cup squad

Just shows how important it is for one or two of your top batters to dig in and score big .

An even better day for England . So frustrating for the Kiwis . With a better weather forecast ahead , if I were Kane Williamson I’d get to 250 in front , declare and back my bowlers to skittle England again in whatever time might be left .

The Australians complaining about “Australian type “ cricketing behaviour . Their media , fans & players have been known to dish out their fair share .. Yes if it’s unacceptable it’s unacceptable , but the likes of Warner and co need to think on . You you reap what you sow . It’s pretty ironic that the Aussie whinging coincides with them being on the ropes .

It never ceases to amaze me that sports people that do this, think they'll get away with it.
Anyway, the talk here is that Smith is gone.
I'd bet that he won't play for Australia again. What he did has cost him millions of dollars in pay and sponsorships. It will also cost CA a fortune in TV rights. (It's reported that it already costs Channel 9 $40 mill just to broadcast cricket, that's on top of what it cost for the rights to broadcast)
It's also said that others in the team will get the flick. CA will come down hard on these guys.

Gordon I was referring to the Aussie manager Darren Lehman . The player who did the cheating is Barcroft . As an inexperienced player he probably did as he was told by Smith . Did Lehman know what was going on ? Maybe not . This story has moved on at speed . Thanks for posting the updates Dave and Wilpshire . The clip from the Aussie fans and the parent talking about Smith and how his son sees Smith as a his hero is pertinent . I have to say when I first posted about this I didn’t realise the earthquake this would cause in Aussie cricket

People here are really pissed off at what has gone on.
CA were looking at another huge payday as the rights come up for offer. That's gone up in smoke.
Watch the sponsors ditch the sport in Aus.
This will cost hundreds of millions for CA.

Seriously Dave ? Smith , Warner and maybe Lyon out of Test cricket ? That would be a massive sanction .

Is the finger being pointed at Lehman too ?

Like you said in an earlier post how the heck do these guys think they’ll get away with this sort of thing with the number of cameras around .
