Fantastic start for England. Great to see Broad and Anderson back. I don't at all agree with leaving them out to "build for the future" or whatever. Arguably England's 2 best ever seam bowlers, we'll miss them for a long time when they're gone so should just keep playing them until they want to retire IMO.

Catches win matches was always the mantra in my playing days . Drop the first two that Bairstow took this morning and it might have been a different story . Instead they caught everything and NZ 39 for 6 at lunch

I know it's early days and what I know about cricket could be written on a pin head but I did warn about reducing Root's effectiveness when he was made Captain back in 2017.
His 115 not out free of the responsibility of Captaincy and passing 10000 runs to boot was a great start. I hope he will go on to now prove what a really great batsman he is.

I’ve seen cars driving around Blackburn with massive “I support Imran Khan” stickers on the back. I kid you not. On the subject of car stickers I was considering getting some “Free Israel” stickers made and sticking them on cars in a certain area.

I see The Dingles haven't managed to sell out Headingley for their cup final.

Anyway, this Singaporean guy David makes David Livingstone look like a wet lettuce. It was all looking a bit ropey before he and Villas got going.

Highest score in this format at the arch enemy's ground for Lancs. The Yorkshi*re require 214 to win. I think we will need every run especially with no Parkinson.

I must say the weather seems to be tropical up there, all sun and short sleeves even at almost 8pm. Weather is more like March in East Lancs.

Another staggering win for England . After the successful run chase at Lords I thought 299 was a bridge too far at Trent Bridge . In my 50 odd years watching England I haven’t seen an innings to better Bairstow ‘s this afternoon. Absolutely amazing batting that destroyed a decent international bowling attack

I’ve always thought Rob Key was a clown . I know two swallows don’t make a summer, but plaudits to him , he’s had a great start and the new positive approach is a credit to him , McCullum and Stokes .

Word of warning though , only winning back the Ashes matters to fans of English test cricket .

It beggars belief . We went for lunch with a couple from over the border yesterday . The husband is a big Yorkshire cricket fan . He told me the damage Rafiq has done to the club will take decades to repair . He basically said Rafiq was never good enough and after he was discarded that’s when he started on his revenge mission

I said I always suspected he was a wrong’un and once his anti- Semite texts and the report of him chatting up that sixteen year old girl on the plane and plying her with alcohol came to light , my suspicions were confirmed.

A complete asshole whose dragged the reputation of Yorkshire and English cricket through the mud .

I love cricket but this England one day series in the Netherlands is just a joke, especially when it robs Lancs of 3 players from the premier domestic competition which they may end up struggling in.

A proper piss up weekend. As I speak England have almost rocked up 300 runs from 37 overs . . it is literally see ball hit ball fun in the almost sun. T50.
Only competitive thing about this kind of match is seeing if England can get close to the record score.

It is nice to see that the Netherlands do have a "Van" in the team haha. Looking around the world at the cricketing minnow countries they are usually made up of South Asian expats.

Could not get a ticket for Blackpool as it has been sold out for a while - still with our depleted team we could get a real spanking . . .

Interesting to note that even the Dutch players prioritised playing in the T20 Blast over some semi pointless series in Amsterdaaaaam whilst our own were dragged over there to try and chase a 500 against amateurish bowling (gonna have to win the toss first though lads, lol)
