Litter

Well if the reason for Blackburn drowning in litter is “ austerity “ , which it isn’t , thank heavens this shower didn’t get back into power in 2010 .

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....alistair-darling-cut-deeper-margaret-thatcher

Remember the “ I’m afraid there’s no money left “ note ?

They had big plans to clean up the monumental mess they made , aka Labour’s Great Depression . Their plan ? Two parliaments of deep austerity . No doubt accompanied by rising unemployment , their own unique badge of honour

Labour governments are great for the left wing intelligentsia , the virtue signallers and the middle class public sector , who then bunker down in the leafy suburbs when it all goes wrong . For the rest of us they’re a nightmare .

Back to litter . If the arseholes who dropped the litter had a bit of pride in their town & country then we’d solve the problem overnight . That’s never going to happen as I’d wager most of them vote Labour anyway . So for them fines and community service are the answer .

In the meantime schemes set up by Iceland and armies of volunteer litter pickers, assisting hard working street cleaners ( they pick it up & within 24 hours the litter is all over the place again ) can keep the roads & streets clean - we keep our road litter free .

I’m not sure how they do it in the Tory Ribble Valley , but when I drive through its towns and villages , on the whole they’re spotless in comparison to Blackburn

Well done to Iceland . More supermarkets would do well to follow their lead . These sorts of schemes should help reduce litter in the streets . Blackburn must be the litter capital of the UK . Also a real opportunity for people to pick up litter ( plastic bottles ) , exercise and get money off their shopping bill !

Oh no I've just described the socialist's nightmare - actually doing something to benefit yourself instead of expecting the Council to do it all for you !
I'm no fan of Iceland's food which they use US to recycle that's for sure but all credit for this scheme although I don't know how much electricity is used nor resources and fuel to collect it all..

Which leads me onto something else, 1st time in almost a year that we bought a takeaway curry was NY day when my family dropped in with little warning. We'd nowt but leftovers in the fridge which my wife, the dog and I have been steadfastly ploughing through since Boxing day so we ordered a take away (Bukhara and really excellent as usual). Afterwards yours truly set about washing up and I can't tell you how much plastic was used for that meal for 4! I saved it as usual for future food storage purposes but I'd guess that people who have take away meals on a more regular basis will just stuff it all in the bin. A dreadful waste of petro chemicals and a massive problem for the environment. Maybe plastic shredders should be on every supermarket car park?

Superb whatabouttery.

Of course there's always been a litter problem - Britons have thrown rubbish out of windows on to the streets since Elizabethan times - but it's got significantly worse since austerity because it's no longer cleared up by the authorities. A few volunteers litter picking here and there won't solve the problem
Neither would a Labour govt! At least it's not dead bodies being left unburied under the Conservatives. Rem 1979 John? How about Callaghan's dreadful "Crisis? What crisis?" You should you know because that was when a Labour govt resulted in scenes like this all across the nation and Margaret Thatcher swept in to power on the strength of it. Surely I don't need me to remind you of the great victory night when you wrote such a glowing tribute of the great Lady's victory speech in Barnett Town hall?

Looks like Birmingham 2019 under the Tories:

Thankfully a change is just around the corner and we'll see the back of this inept useless excuse of a government.

Anyone who is old enough to remember , realises what a mess that Labour government left this country in . Rubbish piled up , dead bodies unburied , strikes a plenty , fuel shortages , power cuts etc etc . We weren’t Corbyn’s socialist utopia of Venezuela , but we were heading that way . Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it . Never again

So who do you suggest replaces the current government Gav ?

A Momentum Labour government led by Corbyn, acknowledged within his own party as a racist anti - Semite ? Or at the other extreme , how about a Tommy Robinson influenced UKIP ?

Be careful what you wish for .

Is it Gav? Why? Is somebody going to shoot Nicola Sturgeon and the entire Scottish Nationalist Party any time soon?

Gav, that was a Birmingham Labour Council who refused to deal a deal with the unions until pressure was put on the Council Leader by Unite who effectively said back down or you get deselected.

Gav's just attempting the impossible by trying to re-write history!

btw Gav as you post pics of piles of rubbish and call for another Labour govt can I remind you of a statement frequently attributed to Einstein... "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting something different to happen".

The point was us going back to streets covered in bin bags, well the streets of Birmingham experienced just that last summer under the Tories, sadly not widely reported in the Daily Mail/Telewag so missed on here.

Bit like the Tories ripping themselves to bits again whilst in government, you'd think they'd learn after a while wouldn't you?

I despise littering personally, absolutely despise it. Just as much in the middle of a town as in a national park.

Roads, buildings, cars etc may have already ruined an environment in some eyes but to me they are evidence of hard work and can all be aesthetically pleasing.

Litter on the other hand is pure ugliness and very acute evidence of I don't give a crap. About my fellow man, my community, my town, even myself. I'm literally a disgusting pig who is happy to live in sh*t.

I sincerely hope the horrifically rubbish strewn streets of Muslim areas in the UK are not an embodiment of their desire to enhance this country. Only gypos match them in lazy contempt for their environment.

.....and your experience of rubbish strewn streets in Muslim areas in the UK is based on where?

Dunno about b&wh but mine's based in Blackburn. Ranges, Preston New Road and Little Harwood etc

OOT has the right idea; fines and community work service. I’d add posting their name and photo in the paper to shame them. Repeat offenders jailed every weekend while serving on a work crew during the day.

I came off the Mway last week at Darwen and it was covered in sh1te. The bottom of the ramp where lazy fookers just throw sh1te out of the window whilst waiting to get on to the roundabout.

Clearly a Bburn problem rather than a Muslim/Gypo problem, you lot need to up your game and take your litter and dog sh1t home, and don't get me started on Feniscliffe and Witton......

Preston New Road, off my street. Audley Range, off my ex's street. Bennington Street, off my work's road. Copy Nook, my old drive to work. Burnley Road, out of town towards the motorway. Blackburn has become a massive dump.

It's funny, my parents live in Rishton and I don't see it there. College mates in Clitheroe, nope. Uni mates in York, nope.

I realise I'm generalizing and it'd be political suicide for any government to tell Muslim communities they have an attitude problem to littering and considerate driving. But spend a year here and its as stark and blatant a reality as saying leafy rural villages have an attitude problem to big housing developments.

It's a national problem. The roadsides all over the country are strewn with litter, thrown only by Muslim drivers of course.

A tax on drivers for a national clean-up might make them change their habits

We all know that is not the actual case. But we all know from the evidence of our eyes that on a %age basis it is. You really need to get out more John.
