Well forgot to predict as always but called it after Wigan. The football fan approach of over-reacting to defeats and victories is proving totally invalid under JDT. We'll probably lose the next one 😛 But 5th for now, can't argue with that with what is a mediocre squad for me.
We are 5th Burnley 1st I think they've a game in hand but my die hard burnley fan who likes to see us do well says a draw at the turf.

I thought Our last manager picked some strange teams but this one takes the biscuit. Has Brad been shagging his wife? There is certainly something wrong there.

Well that should have been more of a similar afternoon to what now top of the table Burnley just had.

Should have been 4 up, instead we ended up hanging on like Bowyer's Rovers.

The local commentators are clueless as usual. Going on about that Kaminsky save whilst not even noticing that we were taking a free kick instead of Boro getting a corner. DOH!

Good effort to win away at big club.

WLWL continues....

He didn’t look very happy after the the final whistle on Rovers TV.

Made the point before but Dack didn't start any of the 10 games he was available under Mowbray last season either.

His situation is starting to remind me of Benni McCarthy. 2 and a half years of McCarthy warming the bench more often than not, under 3 different managers (including the one who bought him) and fans chanting for him to come on all that time whenever we were getting beat.

McCarthy was still a lethal finisher, Dack can still play a killer pass. But its about overall contribution, number of sprints, miles covered, tackles, interceptions, number of times finding space etc.

McCarthy's overall contribution dropped off a cliff due to not keeping himself at peak fitness, believing his own hype, sulking at Santa Cruz taking over as main man, injuries etc. For Dack its injuries and the disappearance of the number 10 role in my opinion.

But when multiple managers who see a player every day in training refuse to start them week in week out, I think there's a very strong likelihood its because they're no longer good enough.

Again for what's it's worth, for the immediate future in the away games I would like us to stick with a back 5, play 3 in the centre of the park - my 3 would be Morton, Travis and Wharton - and simply play 2 up front. No false 9, no wide left forward, wide right forward etc, just a simple 5-3-2 and let the wing backs offer the width. Strengthen up the middle of the park by getting an extra man in there and see if that helps us get more of a foot hold in games, in all honesty it can't be much worse than we've been in the majority of the away games this season.

I'm still convinced that this squad has the ability to get into the play offs this season, but this division isn't really one to play your way out of unless you're head and shoulders above the rest and we clearly aren't.

A bit more steel, whether that comes from signings in January or a formation change or whatever and we could still have a good season.

COYB.

JDT obviously reads the No.1 Rovers fan forum and has decided we know what we're talking about....ish!

Brilliant win, brilliant day, feel brilliant.

Brilliant. :)

A great day out with friends. Pity about the p!ssed up fan behind me who missed almost the full game due to being asleep.

It was a magnificent fighting display from the lads. Gally, Hyam and Kaminsky were immense.

The only real disappointment was BBD who was totally off his game and should have binned at half time. Dack was a certainty to come on but Dolan was chosen instead. At full time Dack strolled to the half way line but walked away down the tunnel rather than celebrate with his team mates - it looks like he is being pushed out.🤬

Typical! After doing a spot of DIY at my daughters house the allotted time overran and despite hammering it up the M61 I missed the first 20 minutes of the match! I walked into my mates house at 0-2 to the Rovers with Gallagher the main benefactor of the current Riverside malaise. Another goal or even better two from the plethora of chances created would have seen the Rovers in cruise control and surely put this match to bed. It wasn’t to be of course and as is the way for BRFC supporters a string of misses at one end and then a goal at the death of the first half at the wrong end for Boro made the entire second half very uncomfortable watching. Despite falling back on defence and throwing our fate to the winds of fortune we saw out the next 45 minutes, plus the usual 6 minutes extra time out and brought home the bacon! Phew!

Kaminsky... 7 Seemed to be in the right place at the right time to thwart Boro’s ambitions. Made a great match saving save after losing his bearings at the back post and as far as Referee Darren Bond was concerned was deemed guilty of standing under the sneaky but viscous studs of Muniz Carvalho.

Brittain... 7 A fine performance albeit modest and under the overall radar of the commentators.

Phillips... 6 Good display by the 17 year old after standing in for the injured Ayala. Part of the cock up / lack of concentration which ended with Watmore’s injury time goal at the end of the first half. Was it his fault for missing Watmore’s run or was it Hyam’s for dozing off and not watching the ‘offside line’?

Wharton S.... 7 Strong showing after taking over the responsibility of marshalling the defence.

Hyam... 7 Good overall display with a hand in both goals as he headed back the cross for the opening goal and then provided the massive hoofball up to Gally for him to swivel and hammer home. Big Sam would have loved it but I’ve no doubt some of our more knowledgeable supporters and Anti Sam crew would have refused to cheer Gally's goal.

Pickering... 6 An all action display but beaten all too easily for pace by overlapping opposition.

Wharton A... 7 Continued to show his promise playing with the grown ups.

Travis... 6 Somehow the weight of responsibility appears to be adversely affecting our Captains performances. Where is the bullying, dominating enforcer of the last few seasons? Booked for a silly reaction to Muniz’s stamp on Kaminsky. The Ref will have a red face tonight but I fear Trav’s punishment is that he will miss this weeks home match v TM’s Sunderland.

Morton... 7 Improving recent performances and numerous classy touches showing how well he has settled into Championship level football.

Gallagher... 7 An all action performance which he pulls out too few times. Capped with a contender for goal of the month for October. Watch it if you can.

Brereton Dias... 5 A poor and lazy display by a striker who imo believes he is far too good to graft and defend when the team is out of possession. C'Mon Ben stop trying to con the Ref and start grafting and doing the hard yards to help your teammates out! On the plus side BBD played in Dolan perfectly in the second half, free on the pen spot only for Dolan’s touch to let him down at the crucial moment.

Subs

Dolan (Gallagher 64) 6 Buzzed about as always but to little effect. Should have capped this cameo with a goal which would have eased all our nerves but an uncharacteristic poor first touch caused him to fluff his lines.

Szmodics (Wharton A 64) 8 Little influence on attacking play but a massive effect on closing Boro’s creative players down and stemming the flow of boro pressure. I wrote during the match that I wouldn’t want BBD next to me in the trenches but I’d happily go over the top with Szmodics never say die attitude alongside.

Hedges (BBD 85) 6 Sent on with too little time to have much attacking influence.

JDT... 6 Made necessary changes to Tuesday’s nights misfiring team which obviously worked. However why make substitutions when in a winning position and the opposition hasn’t made any? I’m not a Championship Manager but surely when in front substitutions should be kept in the locker to nullify any changes the opposition make to personnel and formation... shouldn’t they?

Referee Darren Bond... 5 Probably one of the Referees who on past performances I would rather not see in the middle for a Rovers match. Mr Inconsistent, however he reffed fairly competently today despite rather too obviously giving Boro the benefit of many of his... err 50:50 decisions.

Great post Drog!

I thought we were really good value for the three points yesterday, we started the game with such intensity which has been lacking at Cardiff, Wigan, Reading away etc. They could not handle BBD for the first 20 minutes and he almost gave us the lead with an absolute pearler from outside the area. Rovers looked neat and tidy on the ball, Adam Wharton (What a Player) calm as you like on a number of occasions kept and played the ball out wide from tight situations which really impressed me. We should have been 5-1 up at HT, two Gally effort well denied by there keeper who had an excellent game. Still not sure how that Gallagher header didn't go in!

I thought the REF was a bit poor today, slow and I think as Drog has said gave any of the 50's-50s to Boro including the yellow card to Travis. Muniz should have been sent of for that deliberate stamp on TK, I hope we take action and report that.

TK 6 - Friedel esque save but I think Akpom was already offside, his kicking seems to get worse each week.

Britts 7 - Nice footwork from CB, still think he would be more effective further up the pitch as we was pushed back quite a bit yesterday down that side especially in the 2nd half. Stuck to his job though and a wonderful megs in the first half.

Phillips 5 - Not ready for this level yet, plenty of promise but he shouldn't be near the 11. A bit clumsy, overly safe and at fast for losing his man Watmore for the goal.

Hyam 7 - Is there a better signing in the league than this man? Total colossus. He had a great hand with the Gally first goal, then I think it's him who plays the ball up the field for the second. Great defender, some awesome blocks partucuarly in the second half. Lost his man at one point and I was thinking Argh man! but he was atoned by Travis who had a great block challenge in on the Boro player.

S. Wharton 7 - What a player he has turned into, I wouldn't want to swap him and Hyam for anyone else in this league. Scotty is full of challenges, commitment to get there, great reading of where the ball is going to go. Got easily spun in the first half and should have been given a yellow in what was almost a faultless display.

Pickering 7 - His first half performance was terrific, bombing forwards to support, needs to fizz his crosses a bit as those high ones seem to take forever to come back down! Doggid, full of effort yesterday especially when BBD went wondering about. Jones (Mboro) will destroy most in this league with his pace.

Travis 6 - Upsets teams, get's in there faces quite a bit, seems to be getting some stick online but I think that's uncalled for. He's a technically limited player but he covers the yards, quite a few times he won the ball back in areas which if he didn't win we'd have been in trouble yesterday including our own box.

Morton 8 - Cool as you like on the ball, decent range of passing shown, I think it was Mortons ball which sent Dolan away? I think this lad is miles ahead in terms of thinking compared to the rest of the squad.

A. Wharton 7 - Was easily one of the best players in the first half, quickly tired in the second half and came of after 60 or so mins. He played for the U23s midweek so I think that had a part to play in his fatiguing. So competent and confident with the ball, loves a challenge, I think he has to start at Sunderland.

Gallagher 8 - MotM for me and should have had his first hat-trick in senior football, ultimate performance from him, tireless, full of energy and running, some clever runs with the ball in the first half.

BBD 5.5 - Boro struggled to handle him in the first 20 mins, he really unnerved Dijksteel, popping up all over that side of the pitch. The problem is when he does go roaming and we lose the ball we invariably get Pickering isolated at full/wing back. A few times yesterday he pulled out of challenges, he got a nasty one to his ankle in the first half though. Needs to be smarter with his energy uses during the game, I think Boros change s to the defence at HT effectively cancelled out BBD for the second Half who then did nothing.

SUBS
Dolan 6 - Should have scored, I swear his baggy shorts weigh him down a bit, doesn't seem as lively as he was previously, maybe the bulking up?

Schmozza 7 - Some really clever work putting the hard yards in when our backs where to the wall especially the last ten minutes of the game, two key challenges down our right side which he had to make.

Hedges 6 - Didn't do too much for the last ten mins he was on for, Cleverly bought a free kick when we needed to relieve a bit of pressure in the dying stages though.

Interesting observations about bbd Dunn. I saw him have a stinker ( based on laziness / disinterest / swelled head / safety first imo..... delete as appropriate) but as I say I missed the first 20 mins where you say he excelled.

Start of the game he had a free roam down that left hand side, Before the goal in fact the corner for the goal was a result of his pearler which was heading for the top right corner of the goals. He seemed to do well the first 20-25 mins but once Boro clicked after Steffens goal saves he quickly became synonymous with having a quiet day. He's annoying me lately though as he is doing anything end everything to never get injured and pulling out of challenges is a bit unforgivable. He's a bit of a soft player.

Or he's leaving in jan on the basis he steers free from injury.

Yeah I'd say with BBD its a lot more likely his agent has said keep your eye in this season but don't get injured. So he's interested on the ball but isn't much bothered about tracking back and definitely won't be putting his foot in where it hurts.

Only saw the highlights but did Travis do anything more than run up to Muniz? About 5 Rovers players ran up to him but the only shoves seemed to come from behind Muniz, on the highlights it looked like Travis ran up in front of him, then turned and ran to the ref.

Of course we got the usual pathetic antics from players like Muniz in the modern game. Stamp on someone then fall over clutching your face to try and get one of the reacting players sent off.

Anyone see Sheff Utd v Blackpool highlights? A Blackpool player leathered the ball at a Sheff Utd one after losing a 50/50, the Sheff Utd player shoved him, chased after him and shoved him again. Other Sheff Utd players rushed up. Only thing that happened is the Blackpool player was sent off, no Sheff Utd bookings. We don't half get screwed with refs.
