I think you'll find very few on here who are living in the (fairly) recent past of the JW era. Most on here are well old enough to rem the dark day's of the 60's, 70's and 80's, the decades after the max wage was abolished. Back then Rovers, PNE, Burnley, Blackpool and Bolton were all lording in in the old 1st Division. It was a dark day for football fans in this area when that happened as within 4 years all except Burnley were in the lower Divisions and they followed shortly after when their "Team of the 70's" boast vanished before their eyes.
I recall suggesting, to much criticism, back then that Jack W should have demolished the old Ewood, bought the rest of the above (they would all have come for a pittance as they were all struggling in football's basement at the time) and built a new ground for a new Lancashire club somewhere close to the junctions of the M65,M61 and M55. I could see that for all the massive wealth that Jack possessed and was willing to spend in order to catch up with the City slickers that the model would be unsustainable. So it proved and the Freedom of Contract situation has made it even worse as can be seen with the Rovers / Lenihan, Rothwell and Brereton cases in the past couple of seasons. Power is all in the players hands and developing clubs lose out financially. A Premier league club not
I won't opine that Sky has ruined the game in this country but it has ruined the structure. Every league in Europe has turned into replica's of Scottish football where the league is dominated by two or three 'have's and the have nots won't ever stand a chance. It's a warning because all football fans exist on hope and when that is destroyed their loyalty to their club and the game in general is destroyed too.
We are in a pile of debt (I feel Burnley will soon be too) and clearing that is the only reason that I would want to see the Rovers get promotion. I love the competitiveness of the Championship, It's refreshing and invigorating, unfortunately it could be better if the authorities could do away with the ridiculous parachute payments that suit ONLY players and their agents because that is where the money drains to. The bottom three of the Prem are the three that got promoted with just 3 wins and 27 defeats between them! Who tf want's that after the exihlaration of a promotion season? You need to be careful what you wish for Yorkshire, promotion is fine for directors and shareholders but is most definitely NOT the Holy Grail for the supporters of those clubs. Even a PNE version of Jack Walker wouldn't be enough these days as successful club owners now have to be multi billionaires as the days of common or garden multi millionaires have gone.
