Rovers Home Gates

What do we need to do to improve Rovers Home gates:

1. Offer free entry tickets?
2. Tickets for £5 initiative?
3. A free pie at 1/2 time (presuming you are still in the ground)?
4. Strippers at 1/2 time (male, female and other of course)?

Can we have a poll please? Other sensible ideas welcome.
Haha - strippers at half time!! be good in Jan! at least there will be somewhere to hang your coat.
I think the only hope of getting new generations is by filling (maybe Darwen end Walkers stand paddock) with school kids. game after game. If some get "the bug" without historical prejudices they can become the future fan base?
But in truth I think Gords views on this subject are spot on and as the silver foxes disappear their seats aren't being filled

Loons from Pune only trapped up 7 years ago. Do the spreadsheet again without those past 7 years and it wont make much difference. Those mates of yours only say that waggy, but it's just bollox, it's a convenient excuse.... look in their eyes. I've seen this before when the rovers dropped out of the old 1st Div in the 60's. Lots dropped off then blaming the bloody '60 cup final defeat ffs! How many other club's lose fans after appearing in the FA Cup Final? I bet you can't name one.
Truth is the loons from pune have simply got rid of the glory hunters.... again! More n more will return the more success that we have. Oh and that works vice versa!

At last a sensible summary of the fall in gates. I too believe it has little to do with the owners and more to do with the league we are in. Having said that you could blame that on the owners if you wish.

I've postponed going back to France to see out the season, much to the dismay of the better half!
On the subject, I do think Rovers could have done more to re-generate support by offering cheap ticket incentives for the final few home games in particular.

How about a fiver or free for anyone who was on the database from 7 years ago?

A positive, genuine statement from the owners wouldn't go amiss either!

That is a bloody good idea and might just do the trick for a lot of the stay-aways. It would probably be a very good business decision especially if the team put in a good display.

It makes absolute business sense Al, that's why I suggested it.

Am I alone in thinking that the way this season is balanced at the moment, plus the way the team have been performing, that any stayaway fans who need an incentive to go to Ewood for the last few matches (or even travel away) aren't really fans at all. And that's no matter what BS excuses that they come out with about venkys / money in football etc etc.

No you're not.
I was really pissed off with OC appointment and took that as the ultimate insult and sulked, stayed away for a while but I'm a Rover. You know the rest as far as I'm concerned.
I agree with your highlighted sentiment and before any one gets on their high horse, it's a fact.

I stayed away when Kean and Anderson had their sticky fingers in the till but I came back when they'd gone and Bowyer was at the helm..... albeit coaxed by a friend with her son's free ST for half a season. Coyle was indeed awful but I stuck it out through his (and Lambert before him) errors inc fat unfit players, Norman Wisdom walk, stupid chipmunk face and all. What a transformation in squad fitness since that little bugger left. I probably belong in the section that thought if we'd gone for Mowbray a few matches sooner we'd have stayed up.

Well I've stood on the terraces with them in 3rd division before now, they say venkys is the reason and I believe them. You stopped going Abbey did,so in your eyes your not a true fan.
Nothing gives me or my mates greater pleasure than Rovers winning, sooner the loons disappear the better.

That might be true but I stopped going when they were still in the Premier League not League 1! I refused to buy a season ticket in 2011/12, and 2012/13. I may not be a true fan in your eyes waggy but I am no plastic glory hunter who says one thing and means another. Talk's cheap, so as I say look in your mates eyes when they tell you why they have given up and see if they can look back in yours when they tell you it's just because of the owners.

tbf whilst the venkys DID destroy the club that Jack built by their undoubted ignorance, gullibility and the stupidity of their actions they have as far as I can see been on an upward curve for the past few years.
1. Initially they were absolutely dreadful and almost maliciously so. I begrudged them the bloody air they breathed and the ground that they walked on.
2. Post Kean/Anderson they have done one good thing and then totally spoiled it with another e.g. They bought and hung on to (some) fans favourite player Jordan Rhodes in the face of some massive bids and then spoilt all that by appointing Owen Coyle. Lots of similar examples too.
3. This season as far as I can see they have pretty well been faultless.

JUST SAW THIS WHILST TAKING A POOP AND IT WAS CORRECT PLACE FOR IT GORD.TALK ABOUT A CRAP STIRRING POST.
"DID" ???...THE DESTRUCTION IS ONGOING .TALK ABOUT BEING BLINDED BY TOP OF A LEAGUE .
REMIND ME HOW MUCH QUALITY THEYVE SOLD AND USE THE SCALES TO BALANCE WHO THEYVE BROUGHT IN ??? THEN ADD THE MONEY THEYVE BROUGHT IN WITH HOW MUCH MONEY THEY MADE ON SALES AND THEN LOOK AT HOW WEVE GONE FROM 22 MILLION IN DEBT TO 122MILLION IN DEBT AND OWING THE SCUM 95 MILLION.
DEFINE "UPWARD CURVE"...WE ARE ABOUT TO FINISH IN OUR LOWEST POSITION IN NEARLY 40 YEARS.
THEY ARE SCUM AND POSTS LIKE NOT TRUE FANS AND SHIT LIKE THAT IS SORELY TEMPTING TO SAY F IT AGAIN BEFORE THE SEASON ENDS.

Right back to the hospital.

I've heard lots say that too. Mostly imo convenient venkys excuse = convenient Cup Final excuse from 2 generations ago.

Said mate is a true supporter. Probably a bit barmy as the reason I stopped was to deny the regime my money after seeing the way it was ending up (in Brunei as it seems!) .... not that my £400 is in ant way significant to them.

Stopping going whilst in the Prem IS significant if you consider the attendances since 67 which i posted. The lower league drop off effect IS consistent.

I guess we differ on our viewpoint. Most considered opinion that I hear is that if they pull out then the doors and windows at Ewood Park are boarded up and the lights switched off the day after, next up the bulldozers move in. Maybe in the fullness of time our opinions will come closer together.

Only time I will be happy is the family all jumped out of a plane with no chute .
If everything did get boarded up the cluck stops with them scumbags ..not attending fans , not boycotters , not protesters, .
Anderson, Kean and all the nasty venkyscum sideshoots would be to blame.

Just got this by email from The Rovers Trust . Is Rovers beginning to become a 'normal ' club again?

Rovers Trust Vice-Chairman, Ozz Jones, sends this newsletter.

In the last few weeks the Chairman of the Rovers Trust, John Murray, has held an introductory meeting with the new Rovers Chief Executive, Steve Waggott at Ewood Park.

John Murray-
"It was a wide-ranging conversation with the new Chief Executive and we spoke for some ninety minutes. He is very enthusiastic and a real football person, very much involved in the transfer window and player matters, but also very keen to meet with supporters and other interested parties. He is actively looking at commercial opportunities and ways to attract more supporters. Subsequent to the meeting I sent him ideas from www.brfcs.comregarding ticketing arrangements and 'how to fill the ground'. He has to keep a tight hold of finances and needs to 'sweat the assets' of the Club, whilst keeping our best players and securing the pick of the Academy. He assured me of the quality of the back-room staff at BRFC, as well as his strong working relationship with the manager, Tony Mowbray.

I emphasised the reasons for the development of the Trust and our watchfulness after seven painful years. Steve had worked with supporters trusts in the past and was very aware of our recent history.“

In the past week I too have had the chance to engage in conversation with Mr Waggott. We met at the recent opening of the Legends Lounge before the Bradford City game. Like John, I found him very approachable, sincere, open and enthusiastic. He explained that the change of use of the lounge, from a sponsor-funded area to a general bar (with a small admission fee), was an experiment to gauge its popularity. Until this experiment, the facility had gone largely unused. Mr Waggott had noticed people drinking pre-match over the bitter long winter in the open air (presumably in the Fan Zone), and came up with the idea of the Legends Lounge from there. Clearly given a mandate to follow up on some of the close season auditors’ suggestions, he gave the impression he was looking to screw down every penny he could. “Football clubs burn money”, he told me.

When I asked him about his impression of Rovers as a club in his short time here, it was clear he was genuinely impressed with the infrastructure and overall size of the club.

In the near future there will be another Fans Consultation Meeting where we will be asking Members for questions to put forward to the Ewood team. Time will tell, of course, but the initial impressions are that we may have more credible and transparent leadership at the club; which would be the least that Rovers fans deserve.

Ozz Jones,
Vice-Chair Rovers Trust.
