Second up this morning a refreshingly candid post match comment from Everton's Ronald Koeman following Everton's apparent 4-0 'thrashing' of Hull City. The result was very harsh on Hull who with the match still finely balanced at 1-0 to everton were still easily in the game, when Paul Tierney decided to show the straight red card after 75 minutes to Tom Huddleston for what most would describe as a 'debatable' challenge on Everton's Gueye. Koeman commented frankly and honestly that the challenge did not warrant a red card. Now try as I might I cannot bring myself to believe that the likes of Mourhino or Wenger would even have made that comment in their dreams.
As for Paul Tierney I can understand his decision as the rulemakers and TV analysis have made them always err on the 'safe' side with most decisions for the good of their career BUT the one side of the equation who are constantly cheated most are the fans. Awaydays at Prem grounds cost a lot of money in admission, travel etc and Hull City fans had a long way to travel home feeling cheated out of their hard earned and with a bitter taste in their mouths, Everton fans obviously not as far but I'm pretty sure even taking into account the win at all costs mentality of the Premier League that the more reasoned amongst them will also regret the denial of the match as a spectacle for the supporters after 75 mins. For all the debate on TV over these issues I've never heard any consideration given toward the fans yet. My long held opinion is that a 'blue' card to signify a compulsory substitution would solve these issue without impacting on the matchday experience.
