As for once ruling a third of the world yeah not like the British Empire was built on anything immoral. Those who are proud of that past are the same who are brainwashed into liking this sort of nonsense.
Brainwashed by who? With the left dominating education and powerful P.C. lobby groups dominating political discourse, I'd say the only brainwashing that goes on in modern Britain is a relentless anti-patriotism and shaming.

I agree the Empire has some serious and valid criticisms, although many of those criticisms can be attributed to simply the stage of moral development humanity was at at the time. For example the practical slave labour of British mill workers would have happened Empire or not.

But for me the huge benefits the empire brought are rarely mentioned. Advancing living standards in Africa, Asia and North America by about 1,000 years. Building infrastructure, introducing law, medicine, housing, education. It wasn't all like Pocahontas before we got there, just as often it was like the rural tribes in Pakistan marching young girls through the streets naked to avenge tribal grievances.

More recently, have the Germans paid their dues for wrecking Europe twice ?
Not sure have they finished paying their war debts yet? Stalin was in the same side on WW2 (well not all of it) and he was hardly a nice person. I accept that some things are essential but I'm not sure what the current incarnation of the Royals (that being the house of Windsor or to be more precise Mounbatten Windsor isn't it?) has to do with the old Empire anyway. They are a relic that should have been outdated when the Empire nations got their independence.

And replaced with what ?

Someone who isn't just an overpaid, snobbish, elitist ceremonial figurehead. The government leader should be head of state whether the title is Prime Minister, President, whatever.

Schools , Colleges & Universities are now echo-chambers for leftwing views with no attempt at balance or thoughtful reasoning . You’re right our young people are the ones being brain washed, students are being initiated , via our state education system, into an essentially Manichaean view of politics, with a checklist of “goodies” (lefties , trade unions, remainers , Corbyn) and “baddies” (Tories, Brexiteers, profitable businesses , anyone who uses the phrase “ patriotism “ without irony).

A reminder of our history as a proud United Kingdom , with a constitutional monarchy , a nation that has fought the evils of fascism & communism , doesn’t do us any harm from time to time

The only thing to get over as I see it is jealousy. An emotion I think the left traditionally enjoy cultivating more than the right.
Envy. One of the seven deadly sins. It's bred in the lefties. It's about the only thing that motivates em to get out of bed in the morning.

I do see the point about his parentage though.
I used to but I don't now Al. As he gets older he looks more and more like Charles to me. Eyes way too close together considering Diana's looks.

"Working hard" doing what cutting ribbons at another fete? If anyone should contribute to bloody charity its them!
Personally I think the Queens had a shit life. Not only that but name another Public Servant whose put a shift in for over 60 years! Most of the buggers cant wait to take early retirement on their bloated pensions reluctantly paid for by the taxpayer. They are the real burden on our society.

My way forward for 'Public servants' of the future would be drastic but completely rational.

Why shouldn’t people be envious of a privileged class who have done absolutely nothing to deserve it?
Its a similar situation to the trickle-down economics argument. That the rich getting richer helps the poor get richer. I know the left challenge whether that actually happens and personally I haven't researched it.

But the link I posted on the last page goes to substantial lengths to be impartial and thorough, and its conclusion is the monarchy makes the UK £26 billion profit (albeit over a somewhat fuzzy timescale).

So them being rich really does make you richer. And considering they work their backsides off for it in charity and international relations (with no, or very old, retirement age as Drog says), why be envious instead of saying good to have you on the team.

I hope it does not rain on the big day. My jelly and cream will get wet and the sausage rolls soggy.

God Save the Queen.

I'm not usually the mushy type but I challenge anyone to watch that in full and not wish them well. 2 incredibly nice people totally in love and eager to make the world a better place.

Personally, I found the interview revolting and switched channels. The way the Royals talk is embarrassing. If the Germans would like them back as a Brexit leaving gift they are welcome to have them. Could we have their excellent public services in exchange?

Talk of the Royals' "value" to the UK economy is grossly exaggerated given that they hide their money in offshore bank accounts and from public scrutiny (while pleading poverty to get public money to renovate Buckingham Palace!!!), are exempt from inheritance tax and use secretive powers to influence parliamentary legislation

I believe the only people who would actually be taken in by the fantastical "net benefit" figure would be intellectually, lazy ideological royalist sycophants in search of some big looking numbers to feed into their personal confirmation biases.

Why anyone should actually like Royals is beyond comprehension really. I guess the answer is that some people just like to be subservient. They like to be abused and taken advantage of by people they consider to be their superiors. And for the same reasons they're probably also the same sort of people who vote Conservative.

You must mean the majority then? Just like the Brexiteers. (Republicans too across the pond.) I do love democracy. How about you Benjimin? Are you with me on that?
