Transfer Speculation and Gossip

We're not strong there at LB but I've been quite happy with Downing there recently plus we do have Bell and Williams as back up depending on the opposition. Downing being best able to complement play with Tosin. The internet does report that we are competing with the likes of WBA, Forest etc so it might not be a done deal as yet.
On the other hand we have 3 centre forwards (2 of em very expensive) who really belong in the lower divisions these days. I'm pretty certain though that TM wont dare ask the owners for more money to strengthen there though. o_O

When Jim Smith was Manager he wanted a top striker (Kindon) to cash in on the marvellous service provided by Hird, Bailey, Wagstaffe and Taylor, we ended up taking the has-been pisspot John Radford from the bargain basement and missing out.
Last time we got up to the Prem we had Bent and Jansen up top most matches (supported by the absolutely brilliant talents of Duff, Dunn and Berkovic). Time before that we had Newell and the incomparable Speedie up top! If we could somehow find a striker of the above quality in January then we could really be motoring. That is what is required to get over the line.
Rem Norwich went up last season only because they discovered Pukki and signed him on a free. He scored 29 goals for them! That's the level of quality it takes to get promoted.

btw If Gallagher and Brereton ever dare dream that are better players than those lads they'd better wake up and apologise!

I’m entirely in favor of a couple new backs. Preferably hard nosed, strong, with good positional sense. I have no idea who those would be, however.

Apparently our interest in Alex Phelan is serious. But you are right, Drog. He appears to be youth team bound.

Morgan Fox is still on our radar. Some ridiculous cons to the transfer, IMO.

Rover scouts have been spotted at multiple Portuguese matches.

Why with a stadium like Ewood Park do they elect to show a picture of the Riverside? Is the editor a dingle?

Personally I'm not bothered if we miss this chap. Mainly because I don't trust TM not to drop Rothwell and re-instate Downing on the left wing! Downing has class of course BUT he slows our attacks down by continually cutting inside and taking too many touches. Note our recent run and the nature of our goals, our strike force can be devastating if we utilise the pace of Armstrong and Rothwell, employ quick breaks and one touch football. Liverpool manage it quite well too.

Hope no one called Anderson is involved!

From the second of Steve's links.........
"You imagine that that previous move into the Portuguese market may make some Rovers fans wary about these latest reports, although it should be worth noting that the club is on a much more stable footing, and with a stronger leadership setup than it was back then."

Amen to that! Speaks volumes about Anderson and Kean doesn't it?

I like what TM is saying in this article. We need cover and long term prospects at CB (Tosin’s only a loan player). We need the same for our keeper position. January is when he intends to address the issues.

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co....y-wants-avoid-transfer-repeat-rovers-january/

From 2 weeks ago, but apparently we are one of several clubs trying to work on a loan deal for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, a striker.

https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/12/...a-and-blackburn-among-cluster-of-clubs-whove/

Other articles about Brewster make it seem that it’s really Leeds who are making a move for him, with no mention of the Rovers.

Might be a problem from Pune for Mowbray and waggott in signing a centre forward when you've just spewed 12m plus daft wages on two strikers who belong in the Lower Leagues.

We keep talking about incomings but never about who should be leaving. Of the players we really need to be moving on and improve upon I nominate in (my) descending order......... Brereton, Gladwin, Hart, Davenport, Samuel, Smallwood, Williams, Mulgrew, Bell, Bennett, Evans .
Feel free to disagree.:p

Go on then......I will
Williams should be last on your list, He hasn't done much wrong this season at CB and offers cover
Samuel?? I still think there is a decent player there when / if he gets a chance
Bell needs promotion to 2nd or 3rd on the list
Otherwise your list is pretty spot on. And your No1 is far and away my first choice to exit. As a discussion point - How much do you think we could get for him?
I had forgotten that Smallwood was still with us, for some reason I thought he had gone

I'll accept that steve.

Slim chance of that after paying so much for those two and with Danny Graham still being No 1 anyway.

Last time we were so embarrassed by a signing we shipped Kevin Davies out as a straight swap for Egil Ostenstad. Personally I'd do the same now....... even though Egil is 47 now and retired in 2005!!!
