Damp squib this time mostly wasn't it? Agents will currently be sat in shop doorways with begging bowls in their hands I expect.
I think any confusion (and correct me if I'm wrong here) is because the transfer deadline and the loan deadline for EFL clubs do differ in the summer window. Plenty of confusing strings attached to. This might help...

Rodwell (if his head is in the right place?)
I don't think Downing and Leutwiler have done anything wrong and may be good enough as back up on the cheap - Only those close enough could make that call, and I would support their decision
Conway (much as I like him) is now only a Div1 squad player - got to go
Gladwin!!! - got to go

Just Rodwell to keep depending on his attitude around the place. Apparently Mick Rathbone reckons he was a good enough lad at everton and that the big money move to City probably came too soon.

Gladwin can go.

Leutwiler can go too as any keeper who cannot elbow Raya aside at the moment can't be up to much. To step up next season we really need a new keeper who can dominate his area and have the respect of his defenders, Raya can sit on the bench.

Conway has been a good servant but the sands of time have run out on him at Championship level.

Downing is not Championship level either.

Add to that if we can replace Williams and Nyambe then we should. Williams is 2 divisons out of his depth whilst Nyambe could be a cheap benchman. Unfortunately for his cause he can only play in one position and if we were to follow Big Sam's blueprint for a club like ours then we need to good specialist players in the 'power train' down the centre and replace the likes of Nyambe with 'utility' players like Bennett who can play in a number of positions.

Hasn’t Conway signed a new contract recently?

Oh and there’s nothing wrong with Nyambe.

Nyambe = League 1 imo.
Only one position in his locker right full back. Even though he has a half decent but entirely predictable push and run game going forward but his defensive abilities are lacking and he manages to lose 6" from his 5ft 11 in frame when competing in the air. Worst of all he is slow to see danger and react. The old football saying is that the first yard of top players is in their heads. If it is then that leaves Ryan 2 yards behind.
As I say Nyambe can stay if he is cheap enough but his perfect position for a team with top six aspirations in this Division would be on the bench.

Let's be honest here ODB apart from Lenihan who punches his weight the stats reveal that we have the Divisions leakiest away defence. Even more damning given that Mowbray insists on playing two deep defensive central midfielders. As Al Fayed said of Henri Paul's blood test result in '97 and which fits any debate on our defence "no one can defend the indefensible".

From the LT. Seems TM has been following my comments........;):D
"Central defence is an area that Rovers will look to strengthen, with Bauer on the list of targets, while Mowbray will also look to add in the full back areas, as well as adding a new goalkeeper to add competition to No.1 David Raya."

'
Replace' takes less typing than 'to add competition to'.

It's good this isn't it? The more success we have with cast offs from the big clubs the more will see BRFC as the place to resurrect their careers.

He is what he is. He's OK for bottom to mid table teams in this division but if we are to harbour ambitions of top 6 we really need to improve on him. From my perspective he doesn't have either the touch or speed of thought of a top class player. Put another way should he have refused the contract extension I can't see any team in the top 6 (or the Prem for that matter) ever wanting to buy him.

This says to me...….."There is no money available"
I think we are all agreed that he is only just good enough but if there is no money we will have to make do and mend

I understand the reservations about Ryan , but he’s young and learning the game . I might be wrong but I think he’ll turn into a decent, solid full back .

Granted he’ll never be a Graeme Le Saux , John Bailey , Kevin Hird etc in an overlapping sense. However the two right full backs who played for the two most successful English teams over the past 40 years , Gary Neville and Phil Neal weren’t either . Just solid full backs who knew what their job was and did it well .

The key areas in a defence are the centre halves and the goalkeeper. I think we have one decent centre half in Lenihan , we need another one and we definitely need a new keeper . Any available funds should be spent in that direction.

I'd agree with the need for a new keeper OOT. A keeper has to not only save efforts which come his way but also command his defence and dominate his area. I can't see Raya ever growing into that role, superb shot stopper that he is. It's a major flaw that can not always be cured. Just like Jordan Rhodes fatal flaw that for a target man he simply could not play with his back to goal.

I suppose haters just gotta hate eh?

Sorry guys but have to disagree on Raya
I still don't think we can do much better unless we spend big or unearth a diamond
The first! it doesn't look like we will be backed to do ( and if we were, other positions are a bigger priority)
Let's just hope for the second eh
