Any hope of re-signing him has evaporated now I'd imagine. It helps if Soton stay up of course but he's on bigger wages than we can stump up and he's on em for the next two seasons too as he's contracted to Soton till June 2021. Only hope we have is that if he liked his time here and Ralf is allowed to strengthen his squad we might apply to loan him again next season but otherwise it's party over.

I must admit the performance of the two young subs on Monday v Bolton was very encouraging too although 15-20 mins isn't enough time to assess anyone properly.

Hmmm obviously hoping to impress the new boss but notwithstanding that and depending how promotion relegation ends there are probably offers on the table from a few richer Championship clubs or relegated Prem clubs closer to London already. Lot's of dosh in this division but unfortunately our share's gone! Likely now to be nestled away in two dodgy Brunei bank accounts.

Good player but does he fit our team? Need a solid centre spine but is he the one? That’s why he’s always shafted out wide.

Everyone wants Travis to start, that leaves one more.... I’d prefer Rodwell if he can prove fitness over 90mins (England cap = class above).

I haven't seen enough of Rodwell at centre midfield to make a judgement yet.
We will have to wait to see if he is even here next season as he doesn't have very long left on his contract - will he be realistic in his demands?
I'm sure ToMo originally said he wanted Rodwell as a centre half but he hasn't been featuring there recently.

It appears that we are scouting around Europe and the "spine" is the main focus

Obviously I’m not there every day but the mans 28/29 years old! Not past it yet unless some underlying issues that we aren’t aware of but he hasn’t kicked up a fuss here at all. Needs a run and never a centre back at that age after an England cap. Tony will know, appears he’s scouting already though if WB article is correct.
Just think he could be $5m player in this league rather than go for a punt at $0.5m. He’d fit a system rather than round holes and square pegs.

Personally I'd select Reed in my midfield 2 before Rodwell simply because Reed has more attacking instincts imo. Rodwell is however excellent quality for our squad but he might be employed better in a system which employs a single deep sitting centre mid, rather like Campo at Bolton a few years back. The business aim for us now is about finding a player as good for less money I'd imagine.
We don't know what goes on behind the scenes but Rodwell's agent may already have found a place for him next season. In fact given Rodwell's on a single year contract he'd not be doing his job if he hadn't.

Both my mate and me commented that his substitution on Monday looked like a goodbye to the fans to us both? And we both thought that would be the last time we would see him as a Rovers payer?

Does Travis drop out then?
No. Why? Reed and Travis being the best partnership we have imo (Doubtful we'll ever see it again mind). However a midfield with those two being pushed by having Rodwell fit and ready on the bench would be excellent.

Reading this article, Mowbray doesn't seem overly bothered about Rodwell, unless he's playing games with the agent

We don't know the ins and outs but keeping Rodwell (depending on his wages) must be a priority given his ability to play in a few positions plus the fact that we won't get a transfer fee for him. I rem Allardyce's cost effective method for a small club was to run with a relatively small squad containing a good number of those 'play anywhere' types but with specialist players down the middle.

Decent of Reed to come up for the awards evening and speak in such glowing terms about his time here.

However with him on a reported 20k pa who was it who said "It's the hope that kills"?
