Does the second line not make it clear I am playing? You can see what you like and we all see things differently.

I would play him in a Pirlo role in a three as I think he'd be really useful sat in front of the 2 CB's as there outlet to avoid by passing midfield.
A proper Manager would have noted Italy's reliance on Pirlo and put a man marker on him. Back in the day Ramsey would have used Nobby Stiles to get inside Pirlo's shirt, deny him the ball first off then deny him any time and space on it and we'd have dominated the game. Like so many of his predecessors Woy hadn't a bloody clue.

Woy wasn't very savvy at all. For the world cup several scientists were asked to formulate an acclimatisation plan for going to South America, which they did. But the players didn't want to be away from their partners for long so he never used it. After going out with the worst England record ever at a world cup he blamed the lack of acclimatisation, you couldn't make it up. You are dead right on Pirlo man mark him and his influence disappears, even the players should have figured it out and one of the forwards should have chased and harried him, but alas it was too much effort.

Mulgrew to Leeds according to a mate in the office and Twitter saying QPR

Can one imagine the stupidity involved in that thinking? Absolutely amazing given recent events. A ready made room for an interview and nice cosy chat with Allah where one of the nutters can prime himself before rushing out to blow himself and as many innocents up as he can. We really are a stupid nation sometimes.

I would say that centre back requires more physically than centre midfield but I know you mean it slightly differently than I do. I am referring to bodily strength and I think you mean stamina so we have our own opinions. I feel that while Mulgrew is by far our most accomplished footballer I feel that he lacks a bit of strength and bulk for centre back and as you say he is a bit injury prone. I think he is more likely to be injured up against a big striker than playing in midfield but as I specified we need to sign another centre back before we have that option.
When he has played in midfield he has bossed the game without over excerpting himself - sort of old pro keeping himself within his limits style
For me he would absolutely tear this standard of opponents apart and if we can find some adequate cover at CB he should move forward.
(all dependent on getting through the day without losing him)

I believe he's fine where he is and can stay injury free because every situation is 'in front' of him at CB. In midfield he would be subject to tackles from every direction. Also he's had his best performances imo at CB. What he does need is a solid defending CH at one side and a full back minded with defensive duties on the other side to allow him to carry the ball fwd and dictate proceedings. The ridiculous notion of Mowbray as employed v Doncaster that he could influence affairs from the virtually left back position that he played him in was just crazy. tbh I lost an awful lot of respect for Mowbray after watching that ludicrously inept display from the team.

You want him to play centre back and to go forward too? It appears that you expect even more of him than I do!

“Finally, what makes a club is the fans. Coming into the team they've done nothing but back me through the good and rough times, they deserve to see the club have success again and I'm sure it will come sooner rather than later. They saw me achieve my dream and being the captain was an honour and privilege. "

I doubt I'd have penned that. 50% of those fans were at best unsupportive and at worst malicious and confidence draining in their sheep like unfair and largely ignorant criticism of him.
I said he'd be at least a level above BRFC this season. Well done to him. The water carrier that every team needs, I'd wager Arry will get the best out of him.

Understand what you're saying about the scapegoating he had to put up with , but in his farewell comments he's risen above that - good for him . I always valued his contribution . Hope he does well at Birmingham.

He was probably up there with one of our worst ever players. No redeeming feature, couldn't pass, poor tackler,he had an engine and marked space.

Sounds a top bloke though and I wish him all the best, you couldn't say he never put the effort in, he was 200%

Looks like we have missed out on the Motherwell lad, lets hope we have someone else lined up as we need a brute. I'd also love to see a left back as I believe Williamson got injured against Stoke and Doyle is not ready for this level. Our defence would be much better if we can fill those two positions. God knows we have needed full-backs for ages and being a cynic I think it is a deliberate ploy to make us easy to score against and lose more often for our gambling owners.

PS Lowe to Brum? That's a shock ;)

1. I think it should be 'down' there.
and
2. You haven't lived long enough!
3. Brum of the championship have signed him and because of the unprecedented influx of foreign players the Championship is now bottom /mid of the old pre Prem 1st Division in terms of quality. That makes the 1st Div (Div 3) equivalent of bottom/mid of the old Div 2. In effect Lowe would be top 2nd Div bottom half 1st Div in quality terms.

'Football is all about opinions', is an age old saying. So if you value your opinion on a footballer's worth above that of the man who has spent all his life in football, has managed more professional games than anyone else (just under 1400) and with a win %age of over 40% that is your prerogative. Personally I wouldn't dare. ;)
