The death of Sulaiman Dik Abed , at 73, has recently been announced . For those of us of a certain age and who played or watched Lancashire League cricket , ’ Dik’ who was professional at Enfield for 10 years was a legend and a magnificent cricketing all rounder . Apartheid prevented him from taking his rightful place in the South African Test team of the late 60s , early 70s
As an eight year old cricketer , along with many of the other starry eyed youngsters at Enfield , he started to coach me in both forward and backward defensive , laying the foundations for a moderate cricketing career. His coaching gave me the basic skills to play for a couple of seasons against some of the finest bowlers in the world in Lancashire League first team cricket .
Thank you Dik and Rest in Peace .
