There wasn't a bigger name than that of Sam Allardyce on that list. If he'd applied he'd have been the stand out candidate.

Abbey you need to give it up. The biggest cock up the venkys made was getting into bed with Anderson, the second biggest was sacking Allardyce.
Mancini applied in December 2008 though I know you're referring to a different time period. As for 2010 can't really comment (don't know who may have applied remember Allardyce wanted to go in the summer despite the wonderful trustees being in charge) but look at WHU. He's had some criticism this season but they didn't fall apart after Allardyce left. Ironically quite a few fans were calling for Bilic to be appointed in summer of 2008. Laudrup had even more support and was interviewed but Williams went for Ince instead. Kamy said to me that Williams regarded that as his biggest mistake not hiring Laudrup. Personally I wanted Ten Cate who admittedly hasn't done much since. Apparently got offered the Dutch national team job recently but he's under investigation for some business interests.

Have to say Allardyce hasn't really done much at Palace so far. Just seen their league position.

Palace were considered dead and buried before SA took over and the talk was he would not do his usual this time as it was to big an ask.
4 points in front of Hull with far better goal difference and 2 games to play, and it is Palace V Hull tomorrow, I wouldn't bet against SA getting a home result to secure safety

Looking very much like Hull for the drop now....... not that it matters to us.:(

Arsenal 2-0 up at Stoke. Pretty much Old Wenger gets that top four finish and a Champions League spot too. Only to shove it right up the growing number of ungrateful bstards amongst the Arsenal fans...... and Piers Morgan especially! Also it's always nice to see Liverpool and Citeh fans in tears.

Bye bye Hull, ahahaha.

Just saw the league table for this and the gap between WBA and Evertin is huge. It is really becoming a two tier league.

Come on Spurs. With a bit of luck the Scum might not even qualify for the Europa League this season. Having said that what happens to the FA Cup winners place if Arsenal and Chelsea both qualify from their league positions?
They could of course qualify by beating Ajax in this season's Europa League so my hopes of them getting nothing don't stand much of a chance really.

I hope they beat Ajax, keep Ibrahimovic and sign Griezmann etc. Would love to see those two play together.

Speaking of United saw this interesting tweet about a week back.

"Sat in The Jack Walker in 2011 when we drew 1-1 with Blackburn to secure number 19. Ticket I acquired had 'Mame Biram Diouf' on it!"

What's the rules on ticket scalping now for players with complimentary tickets? How dumb can you get to let a United player on loan have complimentary tickets for that game? Finn was quoted in press (he hadn't left at that stage) reminding Rovers fans that selling tickets were illegal as a few had disgracefully sold theirs. Gonna send an email to Stoke and tell them to watch out.

How anyone can want United with their FUP influence to win a UEFA competition is beyond me. That alone should be enough reason its not just me finding an excuse to go off on an anti-united tangent. I would say the same about ANY club who campaigned for FUP as heavily as United did.

Those quoting Whelan on Venkys (made it clear what I believed he meant ) should also remember the old git spoke out for United on FUP. Not only is that hypocritical to the point of being laughable its a direct insult to what Jack did for this club as well.

Player power!
As the old saying in football Management goes...... "You must get rid of bad players, before they get rid of you".
Not Happy? Premier League players not happy? They've completely lost touch with reality haven't they? How do they think everyone else goes on? Apparently the poor little luvvies are not allowed many days off! Have you ever heard such crap from people who are earning in the region of 10 grand PER DAY for two hours of (from what I see on training ground footage) playing keepy uppey??? Do they actually think they'd get more days off at any of the top half dozen clubs?
First off if I were him I'd bin off that Troy Deeney straight away. Admittedly I'm looking from the outside in but I suspect he thinks that he's Mr Watford and more imp and biger than the Manager, well he is but only cos he's a fat bstard, plus his age and weight means that his careers at the end of the road. Getting shot of him might should make his teammates tread a bit more warily whilst the Manager weeds out the rest of the rotten apples. Deeney can have as much time off as he wants then.... might be worthwhile for him to spend some of it at the Dentist.

Watford players do have a point with excessive training. Hodgson had intense training sessions here which contributed to poor form in 2nd half of 97-98. Have a look at the squad that season can't say most of them were lazy. Not sure they demanded days off but they certainly felt the effects. It may also have had an impact on the horrendous injury situation in the following season.

Mourinho asking Allardyce to play a weakened side as well this weekend . Guess he never watched the United v Rovers game in November 2010 otherwise he wouldn't have needed to ask. Allardyce can play who he wants of course (like Huddersfield did) but would be pathetic if he did so just because Mourinho asks.

Your description of Deeney certainly rings a bell. Just trying to think who it reminds me of....hmmmm.

Yes .... player power yet he's been asked to manage and select the team for the final match! How weirds that? I'd be inclined to pick a team made up of the youth team and the ground staff with the ball boys on the bench.

As far as Hodgson here his training methods sparked a revolution headed I believe by Tim Sherwood. I can't imagine a similar scenario panning out like that at Old Trafford in those days. Course it didn't help that when they played away matches Hodgson stopped in a better hotel than the team, a few little things like that might have worked on the continent but will always foster an air of resentment in this country. No 'I' in team and all that.

Ironically someone said on BRFCS the seeds of resentment were laid following the 4-0 defeat at Old Trafford in November 1997.

Never heard that about hotels before.

Allardyce has quit Palace apparently. Bit of a shock to the system for those in Lingardland with their "happily ever after" propaganda.

Looks like he wants a bigger club now that he has the kudos of saving Palace.
