Elliot Bennett being our closest current comparison to fit the utility player role.

...and Mike E's reaction (over at BRFCS) is to use it for means of cheap point scoring over the Jack chants. Of course if I mention Jack's family it's boring and pointless. Involve Burnley though and Jack's memory suddenly matters.

That's shocking! Hard as nails and a proper midfielder was Beattie. I rem the headlines about him pLaying and being named mom in Eastern Europe in sub zero temperatures in a short sleeved shirt when even the opposition had two shirts and gloves etc.

'Undisclosed illness' after a month in hospital. Too young isn't it?

That's a shame. Bloody great childhood memories of '66 and '70 World Cups. Tragically lost an eye in a car crash which effectively ended his football career.
Four of them gone now, Moore, Wilson, Ball and now Banks. I imagine it'll speed up now with them all getting to their top 70's / 80's. Rovers players Fred Pickering and Mike Harrison from the same generation passing away within the past fortnight.

btw unless I missed it (and correct me if I'm wrong) but we've had a minutes silence and black armbands for two the last two home matches for an Argentinian footballer who 3 weeks back no one had heard of and who never played a match in England whilst I can not remember hearing a mention for Mike Harrison or Vice President Dr Milton Jeffries. Black armbands and an announcement and a mention on the screen for both plus Fred should be carried out for the next home match.

Agree wholeheartedly, the club should respect the men that have made it the club it is . The roll of honour is a good start , but honouring the passing of Mr Jeffries , Mike Harrison and Fred Pickering is also important. Black arm bands and a tribute to all 3 on the big screen would be appropriate.

Gordon Banks was a great goalkeeper. How I wish he’d played in the World Cup game in 1970 against West Germany . I think that England team was the only one that had the ability to beat the special Brazil of 1970 . Two World Cup wins on the trot might have resulted if Banks hadn’t been ill with food poisoning

Rest in Peace

Never deemed fit to have a knighthood but tbh when one sees some of the dollopers and assorted n'er do wells who have been knighted he's not missing much is he?
