In your post you said :

"And if you look into the figures closely you will realise that UK manufacturing has only turned up on the coat-tails of a buoyant global economy"

The stand out word being only

    I replied :

" So a more realistically valued pound hasn't had any effect on UK manufacturing ? "

I'll give you that Chris , you revised your position in your reply below rather than corrected you first post :

" The devalued pound (a weak currency is a sign of weak economy BTW) has helped exporters but the biggest help to manufacturing has been the big upturn in the global economy "

Hey Chris I don't disagree , the global revival is helping world trade - that's great. The UK manufacturing sector has a cherry on the top because of a competitive exchange rate . You should be celebrating that not moaning about it.

One report, full of assumptions and airy hopes of growth post 2019, ......by a ratings agency??

Satire can be amusing and this would be laughable except the subject matter isn't funny.

The start of almost 40 years of the economic success you like to bang on about after we had to put up with this and the winter of discontent brought on by the communist trade union barons

Grammar schools should be filled with children with an IQ in the top 35% as they used to be and that's that. I can't understand why the left winger should be so opposed to that stipulation. It has to be based on ability doesn't it as no kid with two left feet ever gets offered a place in a football academy do they? Grammar being far different than public and private education which sees kids from the bottom 65% getting a lift up because of their parents ability to pay. The other side of that particular equation which should never ever be decried (or denied for that matter) is that I personally know of plenty of parents in this area who have struggled to pay their kid(s) through Westholme by working overtime, taking two jobs or other sacrifices.

The left love to stymie aspiration . Their one size fits all deprives bright poor kids of a grammar school education. The left aren’t concerned that it’s the very people they purport to represent who are sacrificed on the alter of their warped socialist ideology .

What really gets my goat is that the likes of Nugee , Abbott , Chakrabati , Harman move heaven and earth to get their kids into grammar schools , private schools etc but at the same time passionately campaign against the very schools they covet for their own .

I remember this local politician who was fervently against grammar schools but reportedly sent his child to CRGS

To keep on topic it also looks like the EU provided and continues to provide him with a nice income

,and Blackburn on the road to ruin. Look at it now compared to what it was before that witch took all the government contracts out of the town and put them in the North East.

My company, Clayton Goodfellow for one and I believe ROF was another that had to shut down because of her. The ROF survived her for a while but she was the start of the rot with her transfer of government contracts.

The ROF shut down because of one corrupt Director, he had his own production lines in there. I even inspected a few of the parts, not knowing what they were for until it came out!

The whole place was like a holiday camp

No. The rot started with the Thatcher bitch having government contracts diverted to the North East. What happened later I have no idea but as Company Secretary and a board member of Clayton Goodfellow I clearly know what the bitch did to Blackburn's engineering companies.

You only need to visit the mining villages in Yorkshire to see the damage that bitch did to the areas and my family .
She was the reason I turned a career down in the police which I was lined up for coaching self defense and combat .

Actually did it not start with the winter of discontent, which installed in the Tories and the majority of the population a resolve as a country not to go through that again. Just think of the state this country would have been in without the changes that came about in those years, even New Labour when they got in power adopted the principles.
It's in debates of this nature that I recommend that people with a certain outlook read "who moved my cheese" and learn to adapt and take advantage of the prevailing circumstances.
One thing I can guarantee is that while I have been typing this, the world changed and I was powerless to stop, change or slow ii down.

Which means one of our natural resources is now being totally ignored and we have to import all our coal. Thank you very much Margaret.
