Just for OOT. We all enjoyed this.
Thanks for that Gordon . That was some team but it always puzzled me how they couldn't seem to put Celtic away in those epic games in the European Cup semi-final in 1970 . Just read that it could have been due to fixture congestion . 136,000 at Parkhead by the way !

Since then always had a soft spot for them , wife comes from Leeds and I have a brother-in -law who played in the same youth team as Batty , Speed and Grayson , He didn't quite reach the highs of those guys and plied his trade in the lower leagues

Jimmy Johnstone was the main reason if I recall it correctly. But I'm still in a state of disbelief at how they beat us up there in the UEFA cup!

Way some people went on that night you would think Rovers played Barcelona off the park at their peak. Yes Rovers were excellent and I know Celtic had a good side (Sutton of course and Larsson) but that Rovers squad would have been strong challengers in the SPL too. They were not a top 10 European side. Celtic's performance at Ewood was much better though than their display in the 1st leg. Never seen such a bunch of drunks in my life though I wasn't exactly shocked either. Loads of them got on the bus in town centre and some were even carrying full beer glasses with them. I heard about a few unpleasant incidents but the ones on the bus didn't seem threatening. Just irritating. Can't stand drunk people if they aren't always aggressive they are nearly always obnoxiously loud and annoying.

I know their European Cup winning side were all locals (or close enough) and may rank up there with the best. Granted the European Cup had a different format then with only actual champions involved. I don't agree with multiple teams qualifying from one country. Its not anywhere near as disgusting as FUP but it still should be champions only. Its fair to say other countries should have to play more qualifiers.. Qarabag for instance got through 3 qualification stages and after being rubbish at Stamford Bridge (some said they shouldn't be in the competition which was unfair considering their route) had 2 very credible draws with Atletico Madrid. You had more farcical games too back then in certain European competitions. Chelsea beat someone from Luxembourg 21-0 on aggregate. I'm sure the current champs (or cup winners in that case) wouldn't lose by that margin to anyone! I'm not really including that Anglo-Italian thing just the main 3 Euro trophies as it was then. I notice Rovers never chose to compete in it (not the 90's ones obviously more in the early 70's)

Yes well I wasn't thinking about a Burnley/Celtic fixture I've never heard about. Hooliganism of course was a major problem in and around football grounds at that time anyway.

I intentionally didn't bring up the Anglo-Scottish Cup. If I barely acknowledge the Anglo-Italian Cup as a European tournament I'm not gonna bring up that one!

WHU = Millwall in disguise. Brooking's whisperings behind the scenes will make sure they get away with everything. Looked well funny sat in the Directors Box on his own after the porn brothers and their entourage had scarpered.

I sincerely hope WHU and their Olympic Stadium end up in the Championship next season along with those cheating bastards at Huddersfield

Shouldn't have to listen to his scouse whine for much longer now should we? Bit of a Ron Atkinson suicide button that he's pressed.

Being United fans they have probably had worse. Don't know why Carragher's grovelling after being severely provoked hasn't he saved enough money to avoid that?

If there's nothing wrong with throwing snowballs at someone (in certain cases of blatant provocation) then there's nothing wrong with this either.

Severely provoked ? Are you on wind up ? So spitting like a scabby camel was warranted ? A few light hearted expletives maybe .

This is more comparable to chucking yellow snowballs.
