Way some people went on that night you would think Rovers played Barcelona off the park at their peak. Yes Rovers were excellent and I know Celtic had a good side (Sutton of course and Larsson) but that Rovers squad would have been strong challengers in the SPL too. They were not a top 10 European side. Celtic's performance at Ewood was much better though than their display in the 1st leg. Never seen such a bunch of drunks in my life though I wasn't exactly shocked either. Loads of them got on the bus in town centre and some were even carrying full beer glasses with them. I heard about a few unpleasant incidents but the ones on the bus didn't seem threatening. Just irritating. Can't stand drunk people if they aren't always aggressive they are nearly always obnoxiously loud and annoying.
I know their European Cup winning side were all locals (or close enough) and may rank up there with the best. Granted the European Cup had a different format then with only actual champions involved. I don't agree with multiple teams qualifying from one country. Its not anywhere near as disgusting as FUP but it still should be champions only. Its fair to say other countries should have to play more qualifiers.. Qarabag for instance got through 3 qualification stages and after being rubbish at Stamford Bridge (some said they shouldn't be in the competition which was unfair considering their route) had 2 very credible draws with Atletico Madrid. You had more farcical games too back then in certain European competitions. Chelsea beat someone from Luxembourg 21-0 on aggregate. I'm sure the current champs (or cup winners in that case) wouldn't lose by that margin to anyone! I'm not really including that Anglo-Italian thing just the main 3 Euro trophies as it was then. I notice Rovers never chose to compete in it (not the 90's ones obviously more in the early 70's)
