Nice photo.

Of course, we had street cleaners in those days,

Chris
You remember those days clearly (I'd est that phote as being from the late 50's) yet on the Brexit thread you say you've just spoken to your Mum in order to confirm your latest nom de plume! I reckon she must therefore be at least 110. Keeping fit and active is she?:)

Sorry yoda... I've just read on and I see you detected the smell of the same bullsh1t that I did.

It's not just the Bus Station . Drove down Preston New Road ( this is one of the gateways into the town ) this morning and it's an absolute s**thole . Litter everywhere from Billinge End lights to Corporation Park . There are some shops half way down opposite what used to be the Fox and Grapes ( paper shop , fruit and veg , and a couple of fast food outlets ) . The litter outside there is a disgrace . I can't understand why the owners can't make a bit of an effort to clean up the mess . The Council need to let Kingdom Environmental Services loose up there , they'd earn their money plus a bonus too !

Blackburn should be renamed Littertown .

The old Fox and Grapes is a shit hole too. Goodness knows what went wrong there as major work started, stopped and it seems it's been abandoned?. It's a disgraceful eyesore on a major route into town. As most know it's one rule for one and another rule for another in Blackburn eh?
btw... For those that don't know the Fox and Grapes it's the pub right in front of that massive mosque that was likely built with the insurance proceeds from the dodgy fire that consumed the old Kenyon's Bakery almost 20 years ago. The building that had no planning permission for a childrens madrassa, which was on the top floor above a textile warehouse which in turn was above a car repair workshop!:joy::joy:
I rem it well cos I got banned off the other place :poop: for the entire summer for predicting exactly what in effect has happened. Still waiting an apology too.

If you want a real shit hole try driving down Preston Old Road.

These places are a big contributor to the litter plague . How many more coffee shops does Blackburn need ? ( this is half built and sited on the lower car park near ASDA and opposite Halfords )

http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/blackburn/16150786.New_drive_through_coffee_shop_for_town/

Scooterist 's contribution in the comments section hits the nail on the head :

" Another place for the retarded to purchase more cr@p to throw out of their car window. Here's an idea: For every establishment of this type that gets permission the clowncil should employ 2 street cleansing technicians to deal with the litter that the place will undoubtedly create. You see the sort of people who don't know how to use a kettle seem to struggle with the concept of a rubbish bin. That would be a win, win - the retarded get their expensive coffee, the clowncil get their business tax and two people get gainful employment "

Quite a bit of passion in those comments by Scooterist, I wonder what his contribution to reducing pollution is as the name suggests he is riding around on a 2 stroke vehicle !

Yeah that’s true :) He’s probably a bit like me , not a big environmentalist but passionately anti - litter . Hate seeing the town drowning in the stuff

Some areas are filthy, it looks like there is no one around to catch the buggers and some just don't care. Mind you it probably makes some of them feel at home

Where's that then? Indian sub-continent at a guess judging by the people on the beach.

Filthy southern barstewards if that's the case. The council need to clear that lot before the tide takes it out..... but I doubt it'll be one of their priorities will it? 'Go to bed and most will be gone in the morning lads.'

Stuff will blow into canals and collect there. Should be easy and cheap to clean up though. Two chaps on a barge with landing nets for a few days and it'd be job done. Rather surprised that locals and boat keepers don't organise themselves tbh.

Drog, the point is some wastrel has just left it lying there to be blown into the canal, rather than doing the right thing and binning it.
It's not hard and it saves heaps, as it has to be paid for to clean up.
